What is Demat Account?
As we all know, a Demat Account is mandatory for safe keeping “Shares”. Whether we buy shares from the secondary market or apply IPOs, a Demat Account is mandatory.
But today the scope of Demat Account has gone beyond “Shares”.
Demat Account is not only for “Shares” but also mandatory for the following investment also.
- Corporate Bonds/Non Convert able Debentures : Popular Companies are coming out with IPOs of Bonds/NCDs with very attractive appreciation. These Bonds/NCDs are offered only in electronic form. So, without a Demat Account, we can not apply these IPOs. Added attraction is, for these Bonds/NCDs there is NO TDS, whatever may be the investment amount.
- Gold ETFs : This is supposed to be the easy, cost effective and safest way to invest to Gold. Because of its advantages, more and more investors are going for Gold ETF rather than buying actual Gold. Again, for buying & safe keeping Gold ETF, we need only a Demat Account.
3. Close Ended Mutual Funds : As per SEBI’s guideline, all close ended MF
NFOs will have to be listed in the Stock Exchanges. So, in case if you want to
Invest in them, a Demat Account becomes a necessity.
In short, Demat Account has becomes inevitable for any investors.
